Mission and Vision

Our mission at Sunbury City Church is simple:
We exist to glorify God by making disciples who.......

Love God

The Bible tells us that we were created to worship and bring glory to the triune God who makes Himself known as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that our joy in life is tied to our worship of this triune God. Thus we labor to worship, bring glory, and enjoy God forever in every aspect of our lives.

Live the Gospel

The central story in the history of the world is that God in Jesus Christ became a man, lived perfectly, died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin, and then rose from the dead - showing that He has broken the power of sin in our lives. The Bible reveals that this story frees us and begins to reorient every aspect of our lives back to the way God originally created us.

Embrace Our Community

Part of this reorientation that began with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ includes a reorientation in our relationships with other people. Instead of being characterized by conflict, Christians are now called to be characterized by a humble love and to care for others. We do this by seeking the good in our community so that others may come to worship and glorify God.

Plant Movements

After the resurrection of Jesus, Christians were so transformed that they leveraged everything they had in order to take this life-changing story to the ends of the earth - making disciples and planting churches along the way. Since that time, Christians have continued to plant gospel movements, so that all may hear the good news of Jesus Christ, turn from sin, and bring glory to God.

Vision

Sunbury City Church desires to be an attractive community of Jesus Christ that brings about cultural, communal, social, and spiritual revival in the "daily stuff" of life.

Settled in 1772, Sunbury is rich in history. Originally the last British outpost before opening up to the grand frontier of the west, Sunbury became a hub due to its location near the Susquehanna River. Through the years, Sunbury's prominence has been evidenced by it's famous residents, including Lorenzo da Ponte and James Cameron; it's grand inventions, as Thomas Edison himself installed the first three-wire electrical system; it's industrial ties to logging, coal, and textile; it's central position on the rail line; and it's place as a premier shopping hub for the valley. Sunbury was a destination city affecting not only the region, but also the state and the world.

We believe Jesus Christ wants to use Sunbury, it's location, and position as a hub to make the city of Sunbury great once again - to show the region and the world how awesome Jesus Christ really is. Thus as God's family and His presence in Sunbury, Northumberland, and the Central Susquehanna Valley, we eagerly desire to portray and proclaim the excellencies of Jesus Christ in the "everyday stuff" of life. We envision a day when we become a gospel hub of attractive missional communities of Jesus Christ, living, loving, and laboring in our area, in order to bring cultural, communal, social and spiritual revival to the valley, the state, and the world.

We invite you to join us to see this vision become a reality.
